About Kendriya Vidyalaya , KV Admission , KV FEESThis is a list of 1,128 schools known as Kendriya Vidyalayas; 1,125 are in India and three are abroad. A total of 11,21,012 students and 56,445 employees are on the rolls as of 1 February 2015. These have been divided amongst 25 regions, each headed by a deputy commissioner.

Interesting Facts About Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools-

1. Kendriya Vidyalala was founded as a system in 1963, but at the time it was called Central School.

2. Kendriya Vidyalaya is one of the largest chains of schools in India with three branches abroad.

3. All Kendriya Vidyalayas operate under the aegis of the Ministry of HRD, GOI.

4. As of September 2014, Uttar Pradesh tops the list of the highest number of enrolments in KVS among all States and UTs of India. A total of 1,46,448 students.

5. Delhi comes second with 1,01,564 students.

6. As of February 2015, there was a total of 1099 functional KVS across India.

7. All KVS are divided into 25 regions, each headed by a deputy commissioner.

8. The three KVS abroad are in Kathmandu, Tehran, and Moscow.

9. Sanskrit is taught as a compulsory subject from classes VI to VIII.

10. Children of KV employees and SC/ST students are exempt from tuition fees.

11. Eight schools have been accredited by the Quality Council of India (QCI).

12. 178 districts of the country do not have a KVS, as per a March 2015 official report.

13. KVS is affiliated to CBSE board since its inception.

14. The motto of KVS is ‘Jyanartha Pravesh, Sewavrtha Prasthan‘.

It means ‘Enter for knowledge, Leave for Service’.


The Kendriya Vidyalayas have a four-fold mission, viz.,

1. To cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government including Defence and Para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education ;
2. To pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education;
3. To initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education in collaboration with other bodies like Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc. 
4. To develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of “Indianness” among children.
