Tripura is a state located in Eastern part of India and Agartala is its capital. The condition of medical education in Tripura is not up to the mark reason being very few medical colleges here. Though there are only a few medical colleges in Tripura the state is leaping progressively towards medical education

1. TRIPURA UNIVERSITY, WEST TRIPURA-

Tripura University was the first university to offer higher education. Government took the initiative to pass the Tripura university act on the 2nd of October 1987. Thus, this university was established on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Tripura University was converted to a Central University w.e.f 2nd July, 2007 by an Act of the Parliament.

2. WOMEN’S COLLEGE, AGARTALA-

Womens College was established in 1965 and situated in city Agartala, state of Tripura. The college view to render services to the cause of Higher Education among women of Tripura, particularly those belonging to the tribal and backward communities of the State. The students generally hail from diverse economic social and cultural background making this institution an ideal place for the fulfillment of aspirations and expectations of the womenfolk of the State. At present the literary rate of women of Tripura is about 80 %.

The College is approved by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and Tripura University, West Tripura. The Total land area of the College is 36387sq. mt. and length of the boundary 1265 m. The Library has 50,000 books with well seating arrangement. The college organizes many programme like NSS, NCC and IT Entrepreneurship Training Programme to enhance the students creativity and skills.

3. GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE, NORTH TRIPURA-

Government Degree College, Dharmanagar, Tripura, started its journey on 21st day of September in 1979. The College offers high quality of education in the field of arts, commerce and science stream in General as well as in honours courses. The professional courses like BCA, DCA are also offered. The IGNOU study centre in the College also offers master degree, diploma and certificate courses in varied disciplines.

NCC (National Cadet Corps) is a national organization which has helped in inculcation in the cadets a spirits of courage, confidence, self-reliance, selfless service, a feeling of patriotism, faith in oneself, power of thought and adjustment which are essential to make the youth disciplined and dutiful. The college has a well-established computer network system. ICT components are made available for final year students and staff of the institution. There are Computer Laboratories with high speed Broadband network service.

4. AGARTALA GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE, AGARTALA–

Agartala Government Medical College was founded by the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. The college is associated with G.B. Hospital. The college offers MBBS and MD/MS courses. Admission in the college will be as per the merit list of Joint Entrance Counseling Committee constituted by the Govt. of Tripura.
