 NIT Jaipur is also known as Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur (MANIT). It was established in the year 1962 as the Regional Engineering College, Jaipur. In 1962 the college was granted Deemed University status with the approval of the University Grants Commission. It was founded in 1963 with only two engineering branches and now comprises fourteen departments. The Institute is fully funded by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India and is governed by a Senate as per NIT Statutes.
