National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) alos known as NIT Surathkal, was established in 1960 as Karnataka regional engineering college. It is a public engineering college at Surathkal Manglore.

In 2002 the college was upgraded to national Institute of Technology, Surathkal and was recognized as an Institute of National importance by the Government of India. It is a top engineering and science institute in the state of Karnataka, under the leadership of its Director In-Charge, Prof. K.N. Lokesh. the college was granted Deemed University status with the approval of the University Grants Commission.
