National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is also known as NIT Trichy. It was was established in the year 1964, near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. NIT Trichy is one of the 31 National Institute of Technology in India and under the act 2007 of the parliament of India, college is established with funding support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

In 2002, NIT Trichy was upgraded as a Deemed University with the approval of the University Grants Commission. The institute is developed in a campus of 800 acres and has 16 departments covering engineering, applied sciences, humanities and management programs with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological education and research.
