National Talent Search Exam.

 

NTSE scholarship exam is a national level examination cum scholarship program which recognizes and nurture talented students across India and also offers cash awards to the successful candidates.

 

NTSE Eligibility Criteria:

Students studying in class X, across India are eligible for NTSE examination and scholarship programmes. The NTSE awards 1000 scholarships to students who successfully complete the examination and scores relevant marks as per the eligibility criteria.

 

1,000 scholarships will be awarded under the NTSE criteria:

  • Rs 1250 per month for Class 11th and 12th level
  • Rs 2000 per month for UG and PG level
  • The amount for Ph.D. to be fixed in accordance with UGC norms.

Under the Scholarship Reservation, 15% of the scholarships are reserved for SC category students, 7.5% for ST category students and 3% for physically challenged students.

For appearing in the NTSE- an exam cum scholarship programme, every X class student must fulfill the NTSE Eligibility Criteria, which are set by the National Council of Education and Training (NCERT). The NTSE is conducted at two Levels- Level-I and Level-II. For the eligibility at Level-I, students must have

  1. Scored 60% marks in their class IX, during the previous academic year. In case of SC, ST, and PH category students a relaxation of 5% is provided. The maximum score in their IX class must be 55% marks.
  2. A student should be from a recognized school in the respective State or Union Territory.

For Level-II, Students scoring the minimum eligible score can appear for the examination. After a level-II exam, students are selected as per the merit for scholarships.

On the basis of the National Talent Search Examination, 1000 students will be awarded scholarships. The amount of scholarship for Class-XI to XII will be of Rs.1250/- per month. For Undergraduates and Post-graduates, the scholarship will be Rs.2000/- per month. Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms. About 4ooo students from different states of India got selected for NTSE Stage -2.

There is a two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For NTSE Stage-I, Selection is done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students, who Qualify   Stage- I, are eligible to appear for Stage-II examination.

 

NTSE Selection Process:


The NTSE Selection Procedure selects only the scholars only on the basis of the scores achieved in the final National level test. NCERT selects only those candidates who have successfully achieved the required score in the final stage of the examination and provide scholarships depending on the merit.

At Level-I, the selection is done at State or UT level through a written examination. After qualifying Level-I a student appears for Level-II, which is conducted by NCERT nationally. Every student who scores the required number of marks at Level-II is eligible for the scholarship program.

 

Each year almost 4000 students are selected from Level-I for the examination, who then appears in the Level-II examination, which is conducted nationally.

 

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is an important examination for class X students only, as it gives a platform to students to compete at national level and avail scholarships for their further education.
